Today in one of my Advanced level ESL classes the topic was famous humanitarians. One of the examples the book gave was Mahatma Gandhi. I asked students: “What other humanitarians do you know of?” One of my students responded:”Michael Jordan”. This was an interesting response so I asked him to elaborate. The student went on to say that Michael Jordan was a humanitarian because ever since Michael Jordan joined the NBA the pay of basketball players increased dramatically. I tear almost came to my eye thinking of the poverty both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson had to live in pushing pennies together to make ends meet.I mean what does Gandhi have on that?
